Chasing Bronze

June 30, 2017 Dave Stevenson

So happy to finally see ACROBAT in metal! Yesterday was Day-4 of the chasing stage, the final part of the casting process where I grind out the welds and polish the entire surface. If you look closely, you can see the partially welded seams where the four separately cast sections are temporarily connected. We tacked-up the sculpture for the initial chasing to make sure everything lines up as I complete the coarse-to-medium grit grinding and sanding. I’ll cut it apart again into four pieces once I get to the finer-grit stage, as it will be easier to access all surfaces (and tight curves) in smaller, more accessible sections. Then we’ll weld it back in together, I'll polish out the final welds and it will be ready for a patina.

How long will it take? Well let’s see—I predict four-five weeks. Shall we place bets!?!
